Kelly Rowe, MBACP

Having worked in pharmaceutical marketing for a number of years, at the start of the pandemic, I unexpectedly found myself out of work. Although worrying, this pause gave me space to reflect on the kind of work I truly wanted to do.

Around the same time, I began volunteering at a local homeless shelter and food bank in Maidenhead. I spent time simply sitting with people, listening to their stories, and sharing small moments of connection. Those experiences quickly became the part of my week I looked forward to the most—they showed me just how powerful it can be to be fully present for someone.

Inspired by these moments, I retrained as a therapeutic counsellor. Today, I help people navigate life’s challenges with compassion and understanding, creating a space where you feel truly heard, respected, and supported as you find your way forward.

Credentials

Professional Training

Qualifications

Critical Knowledge

I am trained in therapeutic counselling, having achieved Levels 2, 3, and 4 qualifications awarded by the Skills and Education Group (SEG). My studies placed strong emphasis on person-centred theory, while also covering ethical and professional practice, diversity and inclusion, and research methodologies. My training provided both a solid theoretical foundation and practical skills, ensuring I can offer safe, professional, and effective support tailored to your needs.

Practical Experience

Hands-on Expertise

Alongside my formal training in person-centred counselling, I have gained practical experience through active placements and volunteering. Since 2022, I have worked with Number 22 Community Counselling Services, a charity providing free counselling to anyone in need, and I also volunteer as a counsellor at a secondary school in Berkshire, supporting students aged 13–16. These experiences have allowed me to apply theory in real-world settings, developing my skills in providing compassionate, safe, and effective support to a diverse range of clients.

Enhanced Skills

Variety of Methods

I hold a full advanced DBS certificate, which means my background has been thoroughly checked to ensure I am safe to work with vulnerable adults and children. This provides reassurance, particularly for parents, that all safeguarding standards are met. In addition, I have completed introductory training in methods that enhance the therapeutic experience, including art therapy, trauma-informed breathwork, and positive psychology techniques. These additional skills allow me to tailor sessions to each client’s needs, supporting a more personalised and holistic approach to counselling.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Improvement

I am committed to ongoing CPD as part of my ethical practice, ensuring I stay up to date with the latest therapeutic knowledge. My training includes safeguarding and specialist work with children and young people through Number 22, sexual abuse trauma recovery from Carolyn Spring, personality disorders with Dr Rachel Freeth, online counselling training with the BACP, and trauma treatment approaches with the NICABM. This ongoing commitment allows me to offer safe, informed, and effective support.
