FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to have a few questions along the way. I’ve included some answers here, but if there’s something more you’d like to ask, feel free to email or text me — I’m happy to help.
1. CAN I HAVE IN-PERSON COUNSELLING?
Absolutely — I offer in-person counselling in my customised therapy room in Maidenhead, Berkshire. You can choose the setting that feels most comfortable, whether in my office, online, or outdoors with Walk & Talk therapy.
2. DO YOU OFFER ONLINE THERAPY?
Yes — whether you're in Bristol, Southampton, Margate or Birmingham, I provide secure online counselling to clients across the UK. Online sessions offer the same professional, tailored support as in-person sessions, making therapy accessible wherever you are.
3. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE INTRODUCTORY CALL?
It’s a relaxed, informal chat that gives you a feel for what working with me might be like. They typically last around 15 minutes. You can tell me a little about what’s going on for you, and I’ll explain how I work. There’s no charge and no pressure to continue — it’s simply a space to see if counselling feels right for you.
4. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST SESSION?
Your first full counselling session gives us time to explore things in more depth than the introductory call. We’ll begin by talking about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. Together, we’ll look at your goals or areas of focus, discuss how the therapy process works, and start to build a sense of trust and understanding. This first session is also a space for you to ask questions and see how it feels to work together at your own pace.
5. HOW LONG DOES THERAPY TAKE?
Length of therapy varies depending on your needs and goals. Some clients find short-term counselling helpful, while others prefer ongoing sessions over several months, or even years. You're not locked into a timeframe. We’ll work together to determine the approach that suits you best and we can work towards an ending together at any time.
6. HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes, providing enough time to explore your thoughts and feelings while keeping it manageable for your schedule.
7. HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?
I usually recommend weekly sessions, as this consistency helps you stay focused and get the most out of the therapeutic process. Meeting regularly allows us to build momentum and maintain a sense of continuity. However, I understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, so fortnightly sessions can also be arranged if that works better for you.
8. WHAT IS WALK AND TALK THERAPY?
Walk & Talk therapy combines counselling with gentle walking outdoors. It’s helpful if you prefer a more relaxed, informal setting, find eye contact difficult, or find movement supportive when exploring your thoughts and emotions.
9. HOW DO I KNOW IF THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply want support to navigate life’s challenges, therapy can be helpful. Even if you’re unsure, an initial session can help you decide whether counselling feels like the right fit.
10. WHAT ISSUES CAN YOU HELP WITH?
I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. These include depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and relationship challenges, as well as more specific experiences such as bereavement and grief, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and controlling behaviour. I also support clients facing divorce and separation, corporate burnout, health-related concerns, and the emotional impact of menopause. In addition, I work with people exploring their feelings around neurodivergence, whether recently identified or self-recognised. Whatever brings you to therapy, sessions are tailored to your needs — creating a safe, compassionate space to help you understand yourself more fully and move toward greater calm, confidence, and resilience.
11. HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?
Each session costs £70, and payment is due 48 hours in advance to confirm your booking. This ensures your session time is reserved for you. If you have any questions about payment or need to discuss arrangements, please feel free to get in touch.
12. HOW DO I PAY?
My preferred method of payment is bank transfer, as this supports the policy of paying 48 hours in advance to confirm your session. If you’d prefer to use another payment method, we can discuss what works best for you.
13. WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL A SESSION?
If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. I have a cancellation policy in place to ensure fairness, which I will explain when you book.
14. WHAT CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
I offer one-to-one counselling for adults and young people aged 13 and above.
15. CAN I CONTACT YOU BETWEEN SESSIONS?
You can reach out via email or text for brief questions or to reschedule. Sessions and therapy content are best discussed in scheduled appointments to ensure your privacy and effectiveness of therapy.
16. HOW DOES ONLINE THERAPY WORK?
Online therapy works in much the same way as in-person counselling — offering a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings — but from the comfort of your own home. I use the Google Meet platform for sessions, and I’ll send you a secure link in advance so you can test it before we begin. It’s best to join your session from a quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted and can speak freely. Occasionally, Wi-Fi connections can drop or cause minor issues, but we’ll agree on a simple backup plan during our first session so you’ll always know what to do if that happens.
17. CAN I COME WITH MY CHILD TO THEIR COUNSELLING?
For most sessions, it’s best if parents drop off their child and return at the end of the 50-minute session. This allows the young person to engage fully in the counselling space and feel independent. I understand that this can feel daunting at first, so for the initial session, parents are welcome to come in, meet me in person, and see the counselling space before leaving. This helps both parent and child feel more comfortable while maintaining a safe and confidential environment for therapy.
